Illumination — The KGPian way of Diwali
When I come to you with cuts on my fingers and bruises on my hands
I tell you that I have been working all night long
Oh, dear roommate, where were you?
You tell me that you have finalized the design for Rangoli too
When I come to you with my legs aching
I tell you that I have been working all night long
Oh, dear roommate, where were you?
You tell me that you are done drawing the design with proper dimensions too
When I come to you with oil stains on my shirt
I tell you that I have been working all night long
Oh, dear roommate, where were you?
You tell me that you have prepared the final colors to be filled too
When I come to you, with hands dipped in mud and clay
I tell you that I have been working all night long
Oh, dear roommate, where were you?
You tell me that the filling in the squares is almost over too
The tables and beds have been set in the Illu ground today
Looks like this is going to be an endless night too
But what about the hall beside yours?
Have they done the ‘outline’ and ‘solid fills’ better than you?
The 20 ft tall structures depict stories of the past
The present gleams
We are the future
Illumination and Rangoli have always been an integral part of the KGP culture. The process that begins from tying loops, putting mud and clay around them to ensure that the ‘chataai’ does not catch fire and lighting up the Diyas at the end of it is a fathomless experience.
Every year, halls witness huge participation from all the boarders making ‘Illu’, as KGPians fondly like to call it, one of the most surreal experiences the campus has to offer.
Bonds that were created in Illu grounds have survived the ravages of time and we hope that these pictures help you relive all the wonderful moments you have treasured in your memory for so long.
