Student Alumni Meet, Kolkata — 2018
Students’ Alumni Cell, IIT Kharagpur organized the Students’ Alumni Meet (SAM) at Rabindra Nath Tagore Centre, ICCR, Ho Chi Minh Sarani. The event was graced by 14 alumni including 2 guest speakers and 40 students of IIT Kharagpur. Shri Arbindra Singh, a graduate of 1975 batch & Shri Murari Mukherjee, also a graduate of the same batch were the two brilliant speakers — the former an Industrialist and the latter a top executive VP of ArcelorMittal, Bosnia & Kazakhstan.
The theme of the meet was ‘Technological Innovation’. The two tycoons of the corporate world explained the importance of management and networking in establishing and maintaining career growth and how innovating is the way to make a difference. They shared with students some inspiring stories that they experienced and motivated students to push their limits.
The students highlighted the problems faced by the IIT KGP community and the alumni helped the students in solving these problems through a technological innovation. This activity witnessed a very enthusiastic participation from both the alumni and students alike. Some of the major problems included excessive consumption of electricity, wastage of food and the lack of basic hygiene in halls of residence. After intense discussions within the group allotted, students came up with solutions and presented them to the august gathering. From a centralized feedback system for the workers to the installation of solar panels along with windmills at higher altitudes, the event witnessed extraordinary ideas.
The session lasted from 10 AM to 1 PM followed by a sumptuous Networking lunch for all at the Foyer of the Conference Room. It was a productive afternoon with exchange of ideas for the betterment of the Institute between the two generations of KGP. The session ended with a unanimous “KGP ka Tempo high hai!”
