Young Alumni Achievers Of 2020
On the occasion of the 70th foundation Day, IIT Kharagpur presented the prestigious Young Alumni Achiever Awards to felicitate and acknowledge the contribution of our alumni in their respective fields. Students’ Alumni Cell, IIT Kharagpur congratulates them all! The awardees were as follows —
RUTVIK DOSHI [1999/B Tech/IM/RK]- Rutvik Doshi is a venture capitalist, and managing director at Inventus Capital India, one of India’s leading VC firms. As a Managing Director of Inventus, he has led investments into some of India’s best startups and helped raise capital for the firm. He has invested in 9 startups. These startups are diverse and have grown from tiny companies to a collective market capitalization of over Rs 2000 Crore and employee over 1500 people. Mr Doshi led the efforts to raise a Rs 369 Cr India domiciled fund in 2018. Inventus is one of the few VC firms to successfully raising a domestic fund for Indian startups.
ANSHUMAN KUMAR SINGH [1999/B Tech/EC/RK]- Mr Anshuman Kumar Singh is Founder and Inventor of Stridalyzer technology for lower-body biomechanical analysis. He has developed products that are currently sold worldwide for diagnosing problems gait and posture. Anshuman is part of the founding team of Bal Mangal Educational Trust, an initiative of three IITians to enhance the quality of primary education in rural parts of India. The team is pioneering various educational system improvements and bringing holistic education at low cost to areas of the country where such an approach to education is unheard of.
RAJAT KUMAR BHUYAN [2003/M Tech/CR/LLR]- Mr Rajat Kumar Bhuyan is the Deputy Project Director (Cryogenic Propulsion System), GSLV project, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Indian Space Research Organization, Trivandrum, Kerala. He is a dynamic expert in the field of cryogenic and has contributed for qualification testing and realization of indigenous Cryogenic Upper Stage (CUS) for making Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-MKII) operational. He has also contributed in the pre-flight preparation, propellant servicing and successful operation of procured cryogenic stages from Glavkosmos Russia for the initial phases of GSLV-MKII program.
MR SUVRAT BAFNA [2009/DD/AG/AZ]- Mr Suvrat Bafna is a Food Safety and Quality Assurance Officer at Food Safety & Quality Unit in World Food Programme Headquarter in Rome, Italy. Mr Bafna works with United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), who assist almost 100 million people in around 83 countries each year, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. He is within the youngest 2% professional international civil servants within the UN system at a P4 position.
PROF ANUPAM DATTA [2000/BTech/CS/PH]- Prof Anupam Datta is a tenured professor at Carnegie Mellon University and a leading researcher in security, privacy, and explainable machine learning. He is also a Co-founder of AILens, a company enabling responsible adoption of AI. His focus is on accountable data-driven systems that employ machine learning and other statistical and artificial intelligence methods. Datta’s work touches on several other aspects of privacy, fairness, compliance and security. Prof Datta obtained a PhD in 2005 from Stanford University in computer science.
SOURABH BANSAL [2007/DD/IM/RK]- Mr Sourabh Bansal is the Managing Director & Co-founder of Magicrete Building Solutions Pvt Ltd, Surat. With his entrepreneurial zeal, over the last 10 years, Mr Bansal has created Magicrete into an organization with revenues of Rs.150 Cr. & providing employment to more than 1000 people. Magicrete, through its product AAC Blocks, has disrupted the Rs.50,000 Cr. Brick industry in the country which has triggered a ‘Grey Revolution’ with this eco-friendly substitute. His products have helped build landmarks like the Supreme Court of India, IIT-Ropar, IIM-Indore and AIIMS-Faridabad in addition to more than 1 million homes.
ASHISH MEHTA [2002/B Tech/EE/RP]- Mr Ashish Mehta is Director at Genese Incubation Management Services Pvt Ltd; a leading startup incubator and advisory firm with a strong focus in supporting innovative “Make in India” focussed startups and taking their break-through products in the fields of EVs, agriculture, supply chain, blockchain, cybersecurity, education & medicine onto a global stage. He also serves as an Advisor to the Government of Kerala’s Blockchain Initiative (KBA). He has served as an IT management and cybersecurity professional for multiple SMEs across UAE, India and USA for over a decade prior to starting his own cybersecurity consultancy.
MR AMIT JAIN [2003/B Tech/ME/PH]- Mr Amit Jain is a Senior Managing Director & Partner with Blackstone’s Private Equity business in India, a role where he leads Blackstone’s India investments across five key sectors — Consumer, Automotive, Healthcare and financial services (payments and asset management) sectors. Mr Jain’s mandate is to help Blackstone carry forward its objective of being a “business builder” and growing Indian investee companies into world-class enterprises, in the sectors he has been chosen to lead. He pursued management studies at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad in 2008.
MS PARUL KULSHRESHTHA [2005/B Arch/AR/SN/IG]- Ms Parul Kulshreshtha is the Head of Business Development at GMR Hyderabad Air Cargo Terminal. She is the first Woman Head and first Business Development Head for any Cargo Terminal in the Country. Ms Kulshreshtha is currently heading Air Cargo vertical, working with grass-root level Farmers & Cultivators to put Fresh Produce including Fruits & Vegetables, Marine, Animal Husbandry Products on tables around the World. She has pursued an Executive Program in Applied Finance from IIM Calcutta.
PROF VEERABHADRAN B [1998/B Sc/MA/LLR]- Prof Veerabhadran B is currently a Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at University of Michigan (UM), where he is also the Associate Director of the Center for Cancer Biostatistics. His research interests are mainly in high-dimensional data modelling and Bayesian inference. Prof Veerabhadran B obtained his PhD in 2005 from Texas A&M University in statistics.
BISWA KALYAN RATH [2011/B Tech/BT/PH]- Mr Biswa Kalyan Rath is a stand-up comedian, writer, and YouTuber. He came into prominence through a YouTube comedy series, Pretentious Movie Reviews. After graduation, Biswa worked in graphic design, advertising, and software. He started doing stand-up comedy in 2015. He has also created a popular web series named “Laakhon Mein Ek”.
ASHISH TIWARI [2007/DD/CS/RP]- Mr Ashish Tiwari is 2012 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Uttar Pradesh (UP) cadre and currently Senior Superintendent of Police, Ayodhya. He has launched the “Smart e- police” initiative as “one nation, one app” to realize SMART policing. To empower women, he has constituted ‘green group’ of rural women to fight problems of drugs, alcohol, gambling, and domestic violence in various districts. Serving as SSP Ayodhya, Mr Tiwari was instrumental in maintaining peace in the wake of historic Supreme Court verdict and CAA protests at the most sensitive district of India.
SIVAREENA LAKSHMI SARIKA [2015/DD/ME/SN/IG]- Ms Sivareena Lakshmi Sarika is one of the budding well-recognised women entrepreneurs and co-founder of Pregbuddy Technologies, Bengaluru. She has been recognised as a National Entrepreneurship Award winner for her work in healthcare. She has helped over 100,000 expecting mothers in their journey towards motherhood, every day at least 150 mothers deliver their babies after using her platform, across India. Her work has been recognized as top mHealth companies & top 30 startups in India.
ABHIMANYU ABROL [2015/B Arch/AR/NH]- Mr Abhimanyu Abrol is the Founder Director, Naya Living Architecture, Consultant Architect, PRC Group UK and StudioDRA London and Founder Director, Aravindam Foundation India. Mr Abrol co-founded ASTER (Aravindam Sustainable Training and Enterprise), a social entrepreneurship venture to develop a program of ideation, incubation, innovation and mentorship in Indian universities. He is actively engaged with PARFI (PanIIT Alumni Reach for India Foundation) to help set up a skill training Gurukul model with IIT Kharagpur near Manesar, Haryana. He has also designed and developed centres for education of slum children and rural women’s skill training.
MS ANITA VENKITESWARAN [2006/B Tech/BT/SN/IG]- Ms Anita Venkiteswaran is currently a Principal at Roivant Sciences, a technology-enabled biopharmaceutical company where she leads initiatives to leverage technology to accelerate clinical trials and all activities in India. Anita is on the board of The Alliance for Positive Change, a non-profit organization based in New York City that helps New Yorkers living with HIV and other chronic illnesses like chronic hepatitis, diabetes, addiction, and mental health issues make lasting positive changes towards health, housing, recovery and self-sufficiency. She received her MBA from Harvard Business School.
MADHU YALAMARTHI [2012/B Tech/AE/MS]- Mr Madhu Yalamarthi is an apprentice to Hans Tung at GGV Capital, a $6.2 Billion global Venture Capital firm. Mr Yalamarthi has invested in 8 startups across the US, India, and Latin America, and championed GGV’s entry to India with more than INR 380 Crore. Prior to GGV, Mr Yalamarthi lived in and led across India and Africa for social impact causes. He has graduated with an MBA and MS from Stanford University. He has worked toward bringing FDI into India to scale innovative models in education, financial services, and small businesses.
MS SARSWATI R [2006/MBM/BM/LLR]- Ms Saraswati R is IPS Officer and currently Superintendent of Police (Anti-Narcotics), a wing in the Tripura Police Crime Branch that handles criminal cases relating to narcotics. Having jurisdiction in the entire state of Tripura, she handles cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act. During training at the National Police Academy, Hyderabad, she was adjudged the Best Outdoor (Woman) and also bagged the Vinodini Cup for Musketry, a first for any woman Officer since independent India.
MR MOHAMMAD ATHAR [2009/MBA/BM/MMM]- Mr Mohammad Athar is Partner at Capital Projects and Infrastructure Group, PricewaterhouseCoopers. Mr Athar has over 13 years of work experience predominantly in the areas of infrastructure, real estate and project finance. His key areas of interests include transport infrastructure, Special Economic Zones, industrial and logistics zones and transit linked real estate (airport, bus terminals and railway stations). He has undertaken an executive education program in Leading Economic Growth from Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University and Strategy in the Age of Digital disruption from INSEAD, France.
DR SUMIT GOSWAMI [2009/M Tech/CS/GH] [2017/Ph D/CS/BCR]- Dr Sumit Goswami is a Scientist with the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, Government of India. He had been Counsellor (Defence Technology) in Embassy of India, Washington D.C. He performed functions related to areas of the defence technology cooperation between GoI and USA under the bilateral framework. He coordinated with concerned offices of US Government and Defence industries to assist “Make in India”. He served as a focal point for information on defence technology activities in India/USA.
